The Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Central Library has been functioning in the main campus at Kalady, since the inception of the University. The Central Library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents that is useful for the faculty, students and research scholars in their educational and research activities in the University. The Library has a well-balanced collection of ancient and modern thoughts mainly on Social Science and Humanities. Our collection includes 77800 books, Manuscripts, Journals & Periodicals, CD ROMs, Thesis and Dissertations. Our Sections include Circulation, Acquisition, Technical, Reference, Journal, Magazine, Newspaper, Maintenance, Information Technology section. Books are arranged on the shelves according to the internationally accepted Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme. Consult Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) or Card Catalogue for Call Number of a book before going to the shelf. The following services are done by our library that is the display of New Arrivals, Reservation, Renewals, Photocopying and CD-ROM Search. In addition to our University Library we have our own Regional campus libraries at Thiruvananthapuram, Panmana, Thuravoor, Ettumanoor, Thrissur, Tirur, Koyilandy and Payyanur.

The present library building is a two storied structure with a total plinth area of 27,000 Sq. ft. Today libraries are undergoing tremendous changes in their functioning by adopting latest technology so as to give the user population quick access to print and electronic information resources. The UGC initiated UGC-INFONET project provides access to electronic journals and database over the internet executed by INFLIBNET accessible within the campus.  Library has a number of rare and historically important manuscripts and palm leaves in different languages.

Faculty Publications:

The publications of five faculty members funded by the UGC are under printing and will be released very soon. Our teachers engaged in active research also make several publications. The total number of publications of the teachers in the last four years is about 1200.

LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP

Membership can be obtained by applying in the prescribed application form available in the Circulation Section of the Library. Barcode of the readers are mounted on the university Identity card, so that it can be used for twin purposes. Application should be submitted to the Circulation Section after obtaining the Recommendation of the concerned Head of the Department. A Non Liability Certificate is to be obtained by the students from the University Librarian before the commencement of their University examinations. Staff members, both teaching and non-teaching, are required to obtain the Certificate before they leaving the institution or before their retirement from the service whichever is earlier.

 

Students of the University: Students enrolled in any of the teaching departments in the university can avail the membership in this category.


Teachers of the university: Faculty members working in the teaching departments of the university are given membership in this category.


Non-Teaching Staff of the university: All categories of non teaching staff in the various offices of the university are given membership under this category.
